I had the god damndest dream the other night.
In the dream I was hanging out with an old boss of mine named Matthew. Now, if you know me in real life you know that this fact already makes this dream bizarre beyond description, but then on top of that, he was cheating on his wife with this asian girl who was possibly younger than me? Actually throughout the dream I was wondering if his wife knew/cared, and ended up deciding I was better off not thinking about it. So there we were, the three of us, hanging around this gigantic, luminous house. Light seemed to come from everywhere; streaming through windows, blaring from fixtures, emanating from the very walls..? Anyway, it was a really bright and shiny dream, which made the strange part ULTRA strange. So after wandering around this huge house and looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the otherworldly view of some kind of beautiful sprawling city beside an ocean, I decided to head back into the den-room where Matthew and his lady friend were. Matthew had been starting at a computer screen for most of the dream (after all, that's what he was doing for most of the time I knew him in real life) and at one point got up to stretch, only to have a coughing fit. So he doubles over with the strain of the paroxysm, and ends up expectorating a chunk of "something" onto a pad of paper on which the young asian girl had been writing minutes before. Embarrased, he stammers an apology while I stare in horror at what's just been dispatched from Matthews innards.
Even through the grime of the phlegm I can tell it's brain tissue.
The asian girl is repulsed and horrified, and not handling the situation as stoically as I am. She starts shrieking "Matthew what is that? What the fuck is that Matthew??" and he takes her by the shoulders and tries to calm her down. He goes on to explain that he has a rare kind of cancer; rather than tissue cells growing in uncontrolled fashion, the version with which he is afflicted causes cells in certain organs to relocate into OTHER organs, and continue growing. Consequently, he has brain tissue growing in his lungs, heart tissue growing in his brain, pancreas cells growing in his stomach, and so forth. The horror of the dream forced me awake before I could find out if the organ colonies retained the functionality of their proper, fully formed counterparts.
Ugh. Sometimes I have a dream that's so vivid and upsetting that the imagery stays with me for days afterward...I'd say this dream qualifies as one of the most upsetting ones I've ever had.
Oh well. I have a new track that I'm working on that's got me pretty psyched..so I think I'll concentrate on that and try to forget about my brain's magnificent ability to horrify me beyond description.

Although, I too "enjoy" this mental ability... by enjoy, of course, I mean "revile myself incessantly, while attempting a full lobotomy to rectify"...
