later, but before i figured out i wouldn't make it to 6'2", someone said, "really, if you could be anything what would it be?"
never the one to set his sights too low, i thought and said,
"saint."
i guess i had given up on astronaut and archeologist, and besides Raiders and Star Wars the thing i knew best was the Bible. it was a wierd childhood. to be honest, i knew james bond and rogers and hammerstein pretty darn well, too, but i knew i didn't want to be licensed or unlicensed to kill, and i had given up on learning how to dance by then. childhood had also taught me that only my sisters got to take tap classes.
so saint.
i knew it would be tough, since i wasn't catholic, but, i figured, "hey, jesus was a jew and look what happened."
so, it's all well and good to try and get kids to dream and believe in their dreams, but try not to make them crazy first. because they might say they want to be a saint, or they might say "firetruck" like a close friend of mine desired, or maybe they'll say "violet" or "time."
Or maybe it's all good. I think I would like being friends with someone who was the best falcon she could be.
