Wow! I think I can use my journal again! Yay SG hackers. anyway.

What's been happening...Okay, a local band played Friday for their CD release party: the Rosebuds. If you have a record store in town that carries Merge Records releases then go listen to this album. It is great. Just catchy goodness of the indie-rock pop variety. As I explained it to a friend: "If you like the Beatles, you'll like the Rosebuds." Also, they are great live. Check them out here. Or here. You can listen to a couple songs at the first link, or be redirected to that link from the second. And if you are in Richmond, DC, Philly, Boston or NYC you can see them live (most shows are with Superchunk, so it's a two-shot of indie-rock pop!)

Last night was Beulah with John Vanderslice and Matt Suggs. I didn't really care for Matt Suggs, but mostly because my ears would have bled if I had tried to listen. It was freakin' loud...and not in a we have a loud band way, but in a turn down all the levels way. Anyway, I never listened to Butterglory so I ...? Anyway, John Vanderslice was good, if a little more produced (if that makes sense in a live context) than last time. Not that that was bad, but I think I liked him better without realtime samples. His bass player is sort of Jack Blackish, which was fun. Anyway, you should listen to Mr. Vanderslice if you like pretty voices, whic he definitely has. Just clear and ringing in a very appealing way. Beulah was good. They messed with their songs enough to make a live show worth while. Very dance-worthy. As the show went on they eased into it more and more, and the banter started with the crowd which I think makes a show better: a little more connect with the audience is a good thing. Anyway, we convinced them to play a little more, and during their encore they just took requests and made who ever made the request come up on stage and play tamborine or sleighbells. Much fun. The first victem was a tiny young women from Virgina (who made two of her friends join her.) They faced the crowd admirably with their unrehearsed percussion and booty shakin'. Go see Beulah, they're fun. And not many indie-rock shows have a spot on trumpet player.

What's next for diggity...well Gillian Welch on the 20th, and maybe, if I can find some money, Belle and Sebastian a week later. I shouldn't punk-out and miss them but I'm broke. Maybe I'll lie about my recent tatoo and donate plasma or something in order to have the mulah. B&S don't tour ever, nevermind in the US, and they're playing a nice concert hall, so I'll be able to relax. Oh, I forgot, this coming weekend is the NC ballet performing Carmina Burana! That will be fun and all hig-brow and crap.

Anyway, tell me something good.

Dude I always feel bad because your posts to me always get lost in the shuffle and I always think to myself, I need to go say hi to Diggity but I want to wait until I'm thinking and not just on auto-pilot respond mode so I say something remotely intelligent and a least a little meaningful, but when am I ever in that mode? Certainly not right now. Anyway, please don't be discouraged. I am always pleased to hear from you. Hooray.
