I saw the Rev and SCOTS tonight. Some bands make you want to drink because you know you have to make it through the set. Some bands make ya wanna drink because it's the only thing that is legal and appropriate as a response to the music. Anyway, for a change, tomorrow is Jonathon Ricmond, and then Monday is Built to Spill (and then next Sunday is Beulah...) Non paranthetically, John Vanderslice is opening for Beulah, and the last time I saw the guy play, he was absolutely great. I am very much looking forward to seeing one of the last Elephant 6 bands- on their last tour, no less - and this fine musician aswell. You go John Vanderfreakin'slice. Imagine being tagged with that one. It would force you to become a good musician - all those hours alone because everyone calls you John Vandersliceofbread or Vandersliceyourwrist or something whitty that my stewed brain cannot think of right now. Anyway, cheers.

Monday update:
So J. Richmond was great. He doesn't look like someone who should be alive. He looks like he stepped out of a photo full immigrants' sons all working for the port authority or something; like he's from a time when white men looked more like european americans than americans. Anyway, he's a great entertainer. The Boss just played town and he's a little like this too. More heartland looking, but the same sort of blue collar look even if he's a jersey man who's never really had a job other than singing. anyway, Jonathan and Bruce may be foils in some weird way. B.S.'s music is sopposed to speak to the people who came from the families of which J.R. looks like, while J.R.'s music reaches further back musically, to the troubadour tradition, and then fills it with whimsy and loss that makes you laugh instead of cry...anyway, Built to Spill tonight.
