Who wants to be my friend??

yay, a friend!!

i haven't had time to really explore the website you sent to me, but it looks very cool. sometimes with conceptual art, the concept is better than the execution anyway and works well on its own, especially if it's well-written...so i like this idea. i haven't heard of gabriel orozco, but maybe i can look him up.

Yes Yoko Ono showed at the art gallery of ontario. toronto is a fun place. it's very urban, things are expensive, the pace is fast, and there's a lot of concrete...it would depress a person who likes nature or a more relaxed atmosphere. one of my very best friends lives there, so i've gone about 10 times. yes, the thrift stores are great! kensington market has a ton of them, plus other gems like a japanese store that sells t-shirts by hysteric glamour, etc.

i am so utterly jealous that you have been to the giant robot store! i've been having problems with their online system lately and had to call in my orders. what is it like? what did you get?

vincent gallo: i didn't know who this was until i heard the new CD playing in a store one day...it was narcissistic, self-indulgent, and whiny, yet weirdly haunting. it won me over and i bought it. it seems doesn't surprise me that the guy is a freak. smile

let me know what you think of the dvd for In the Mood For Love (you mean the criterion one with all the goodies, i think). i want it , but it's expensive, and i don't even have a dvd player yet--how extremely silly is that. the idea is i have to reach a critical mass of dvds, say, 10, before i actually cave and buy a machine.

*doubling over with laughter* no, alberta's not a french province--that would be quebec...alberta and quebec are a couple of time zones apart. ha, ha, ha!!...actually, i'm the one who should talk, since i have only the vaguest notion of the placement of each of the 50-some states. BUT i have hauled my ass to san francisco, seattle, los angeles, chicago, detroit, and new york, so i don't feel too bad...
my favorite thing about los angeles was the j. paul getty museum. my least favorite things about los angeles was my cousin's driving. quel horreur indeed...

the only song i know that mentions alberta is a golden moldie by ian tyson. i'll spare you the details. alberta is a prairie province north of montana.

i love chris ware and dan clowes too, but haven't heard of the others on your list. hooray, more to discover. what do you think of adrian tomine?...his stuff is too bland for me.

good luck with learning french and seducing those cute french chicks with your masterful command of the language. i expect a full report soon. smile

I, too, will be your friend, if you like. I saw/read Yoko Ono's instruction paintings at the CAM in Houston last year and they were totally cool. I also fear pain and like comics. Have you seen "Louis Riel" by Chester Brown? That's some amazing stuff!
