I will not apologise for the view/opinion i am about express but if anyone feels offended please know that it is not my intention!!
As some of you who i interact with on socail media or here know i am a great believer in equality and the idea that everyone should be treated equally and with respect!! The point i am expressing today is that treating one group of people in a way that negatively and unfairly affects another group of people is not equality!! An example of this is all female lists for a job or political office, by creating an all female list you are stopping men who are as qualified for the job applying therefore this is possitive discrimination and not equality!! Now i know some would argue that if there are too few women in certain possitions then all female lists is the answer, but i say empowering women to compete on an equal footing with men is the answer!! An extreme example was a woman who said it was okay for women to 'sexually harass' men as she said that men were starting from a position of power so this was just bringing them down to the level of women.😠 the idea that it is okay to mistreat a group of people because you feel they need 'bringing down' is apporrant !!
To me equality is about creating a world where everyone is treated with respect and judged by their actions and not by their gender, colour, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, political views, belief system etc. I share Martin Luther King Jr dream of living in a world where everyone is only judged by their actions and what is in their heart!!
