So, as always, fate is not without a sense of irony. In choosing to embody the character of Death as envisioned by the writer, Neil Gaiman, for my Halloween costume, I was appropriately attired to receive a visit from Grandmother Death, herself. She came to visit me again on October 30th en route to gather the soul of my uncle, David, who died after fighting bone cancer for 20+ years. He was like a brother to me when I was a child; an abusive, belligerent, violent brother, but a brother nonetheless. All of the good memories I had with him when I was little came back to me in a flash when one of the associates on my team at my day job gave me a bouquet of pumpkins to offer her condolences. I remember us spending hours drawing our favorite movie monsters at age 6 and 7, sticking the pictures to the wall, and then turning off the lights so we could highlight each picture with a flashlight 🔦 while making our own sound effects. We were pretending to make our own horror movie. It’s not so different from the process of creating the story set I am editing for SG today.
Just a word of advice from someone that is intimate with Death: reach out and love someone today, if you possibly can. You have no idea how little time you have left. Even if you live to be 120, it’s never enough to express all the love in your heart. 🖤❤️💀
