Hello lovlies.
Snow, and lots of it. School is cancelled today, the second day in a row. Not due to the snow, but the cold. Our power grid is under considerable stress due to people using space heaters and electric ovens to try and warm their homes. Rolling power outages are imminent, says the electric company. My university runs off of El Paso Electric. Which sucks because the local university UTEP's campus is open, classes are cancelled but the campus is open. NMSU (my newly beloved university) runs off that same grid and the entire campus is closed due to electrical demand.
I've been kind of a ghost around the site lately. Understandably so I would say, considering school is starting, and my happy little ass has been dedicated to my studies. I adore NMSU, I have never been one for school spirit, never been one to go to football games or hoot and holler at a pep rally but NMSU brings that out in me. I'm damn proud to be an Aggie. That's right I said it, I'm proud. It feels a little funny.
The strangest thing, professors know my name, and what I want to do, advisors know what my goals are, and want nothing more than for me to reach them. When I talk to a professor they don't ask me for my student ID number, they ask me for my opinion. I'm not just a number anymore, and that fact alone feels fantastic.
As for my future with SG, I'm not entirely sure. I plan on doing another set, with a new photographer, but that all has to wait at least until Spring break. I've been wanting to trek up to Denver to visit the astronomy department there to see if it strokes my scientific libido. As for my graduate program I'm still looking at OSU regardless of my change in majors. Hawaii has a pretty sweet observatory as well. Plus avocado trees litter the landscape of the university there. I like avocados.
So life is good, and science kicks ass as always.
There's real poetry in the real world, science is the poetry of reality.
Take care,
Dezzie
