Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.
Really, it's one of my favorite holidays, second to Halloween. But as I'm getting older I've begun to realize how truly commercial this holiday can be. I am blessed, my family doesn't buy into it too much. We don't remember what we got for Christmas, we remember the conversations we had, the laughs we had. My family has our own set of traditions, like every family does. One we have is our "Goodie Tree"

We've had it for as long as I remember. It's a small tree, and everything on it is edible, well, except the tree. This weekend I put it up, and made popcorn crunchberry garland for it. Over the next couple of weeks I'll make sugar cookies, popcorn balls, and some blown sugar glass ornaments to put on it. It's awesome to have homemade munchies whenever you want them. I think my mom came up with the idea when we were kids, probably when she was pretty baked. smile
So, this year I am making all my Christmas presents. It;s much more fullfilling than going to a store and picking out something to buy someone. It's more intimate I think to, because when someone gives you something they've made you know they have spent time on it. Purchased gifts seem less personal. It's funny because the idea to make all my gifts came out of desperation, because of the job situation some of you know about. But after working hard on gifts and some thought, I think I'm going to do this every year. I'm excited to start a painting, and have been crocheting like mad!
There is one thing I really despise about Christmas.

Poinsettias. I used to really like them, I even bought one last year for my mom before Christmas. And then last year, everything changed.
My family and I were smoking, and talking about poinsettias. My mom talked about how they are grown, and in different growing conditions the leaves turn red, or blue, or white.
Wait a minute, leaves? I thought they were flowers. They act like they are and look like they are, they get the praise and love that flowers do. But they aren't flowers, and I felt betrayed. I had grown up under the impression that they were flowers, and no they aren't. Now every time I see a poinsettia I want to drop kick it, for lying to the whole world.
My mom bought me a blue poinsettia, and I like it's company better than a red one. At least in the blue poinsettias it's much more olvous that they are indeed flowerless plants. The blue ones are straight up about the situation, they know they aren't flowers and they don't try and trick people. That's more dignity than the red poinsettias would ever want you to have.

Take care darlings. Sex talk tomorrow, a sensitive topic at that. wink

I find Christmas rather tiresome now, but of curse it's wonderful when your a kid, assuming your family has gobs of money to buy you loads of presents. I don't care for the religious aspects or the commercial ones but the Christmas tree has as much to do with Christianity as the Easter Bunny. People hold festivals of light at this time of year all over the world, (or is it only in the northern hemisphere?) It's all about the return of light, but I wonder how that works out in the southern hemisphere.

All I really wanted to say is that's a very sexy picture.

I used to enjoy Christmas, but yeah it's way to commercial and just reminds of the money I don't have.

I hate poinsettias, they are poisonous to dogs and that's no bueno.
