In all my personal memories of being an American, I cannot think of worse disaster to hit here than Katrina. My heart goes out to those poor people the Gulf states. The images on the news literally brought me to tears last night. The devistation is almost unbelievable. And the relief effort is so jumbled and uncoordinated...

I agree that resources are stretched. However, the first and second marine expeditionary forces [which are being sent to New Orleans today - they're not guard units, I know] were stateside. It would seem to me that part of the chimp's job description would include figuring out who out of the guard and active duty military exactly is availble to respond [if needed] and how to get them where they need to be oh, about edit one week ago Thursday - when they had a pretty good idea that a category 4 or 5 hurricane was going to hit the gulf coast somewhere between Florida and Texas. Please understand, I'm not blaming the military [or the guard]. The lack of leadership is astounding. There is only one place to point that finger.
