Once when I was young, I caught fireflies and put them in a jar in my room. I delighted in their glowing butts for a couple of days. But being as I had no idea what fireflies ate, or what their life cycles required, I kept them too long and they died.
Believe it or not, I still feel guilty sometimes about inadvertantly killing them.
It was then that I decided that I would never attempt to capture nature again. No matter how pretty it is, it's not my place to jar it up and keep it on my nightstand.
And this is why, nearly every night in the summer, I'll sit outside and just watch the fireflies with their delightful glowing butts. I'm not a tree-hugging PETA freak. I just think it's good to know one's place in the world.
So tell me, do you delight in the glowing butts of fireflies?

it also makes for a good show when baked.
I've read about them in stories...are they as awesome as I think they are?
