So Fed Ex finally showed up and gave me RAM. I was happy. I was elated. I was nigh orgasmic.
At least until I jammed it into my computer and turned it on. Windows didn't even try to start. So I took one of the new sticks out and tried again. This time it booted up fine. So I took THAT stick out and tried the other. Again, worked fine. So I tried them together yet again, and Windows said "hell no."
WTF?
So I take them both back out again, and examine them carefully. Turns out that one was PC100 and the other is PC133. My computer is picky as fuck, and WILL not mix RAM types at all. So I thought, "hey, maybe I need to see if there's a BIOS update that will let me use both."
Of course not. No BIOS upgrade for me. So I called up the company I ordered the RAM from and had a nice long arguement with the customer "service" rep about how I didn't know what I was talking about, how I don't know a thing about computers and how they would never in a million years send me 2 different types of RAM.
Finally I get the asshat to let me talk to his supervisor. I told her that I was sending the RAM back C.O.D., and that if they didn't refund my money the nano-second it arrived that I would file a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau. That got her attention, and the results I wanted. RAM gone, money refunded and my afternoon lost to terminal hold and elevator musak. Ick.
Anyway, new RAM's on the way again (this time from HP.com, so I know it's right). I should be running at 512 (the max my ancient and perpetually upgraded computer will currently run) by the end of the week.
Oh, yeah, one more thing: Friends don't let friends buy RAM from kahlon.com. Ever. It is bad ju-ju.
Other than that my day rocked. How was yours?
