Dirty Dogged it yesterday, as my good friend stan_johnson likes to refer to greyhound rides. Anyway it was the first time I had ever done the Greyhound, and it went relatively well. I managed to get some good pleasure reading in, and then lost the daylight, so I had to quit. A definite shout out to mikemac581 for the loan of his copy of Narcissus and Goldmund by Herman Hess. It is a great read so far, and definitely timely.

I may have ended up being that dude on public transportation that plays his headphones too loud, I had to drown out the sound of the dude snoring behind me. His breathing was so fucked that I was starting to have chest pains listening to him. At one point I thought about offering him the use of my respirator if he wanted to pull it out of the luggage compartment at the next stop. I then realized that there was no real power supply on the bus, so it would have been pointless.

Anyway, after a six hour bus ride, I was greeted by the Humboldt rain, and a rather chipper stan_johnson who picked me up from the bus stop and brought me home. Luckily the bus stop is also the only liquor store in my home town soI was able to pick up a couple of six packs before heading up the hill to my house. Of course, in the process of making my purchase I ran into two guys I graduated from 8th grade with. They looked kind of comical. One was tall and skinny, and had obviously done his fair share of Meth in the last couple of years, the other was stocky, border lining on obese, and they were both dressed from head to foot in camo gear. Behind the counter were the owners of the Liquor store, a Muslim man and his wife (with whom my mom has become friends over the past few months since they moved into town). The whole scene was like something from an urban fairytale version of Through the Looking Glass, with my old classmates playing the parts of Tweedledee and Tweedledum. As soon as I made my purchase I bolted for the car and got to my house, where I plan on staying for the next five days until I catch the bus back to Oakland on Saturday.

Why do I go home to a town that I can't stand, when my mom isn't even going to be there you ask? Because my house is that damn great. It is a slice of paradise which I really have been needing to ground me lately. Not to mention I pretty much have stan_johnson all to myself while I am up here, which is a rare treat. He is the bestest ever, and only paralleled by a few others in my life. We got to my house about 22:00, and stayed up until about 2:00 drinking beers and catching up...he is that kind of friend.

Here is a photo looking back from my orchard up to the house...

That house looks amazing. Oh, to look up and see trees!

Dude, it's Hermann Hesse. And you're welcome--it's definitely one of those "what's it all about?" kinda books. You gotta love Goldmund though.

Thanks for leaving me alone for a week, jerk. This calls for a night at the Gold Club with Jedediah4711. Yeah, that's right. tongue

(my bank account was getting a little high anyway whatever )
