A Hope for Love

We, as a species, have become too smart for our own good. Our demands for more and more complex thought have driven us to create a challenge where there doesn't need to be one. I'm of course talking about the romance "game" that we have enshrined in our cerebellum as an over-celebrated set of rules of engagement for dealing with a potential partner. Some do it for protection, others for revenge, but mostly, we are just in need of stimulation that comes from an increasingly ambiguous set of confidence games aimed at getting what we want from a person, while protecting our own interest. In other words, intellectual and charismatic "masturbation."

Unfortunately, while we're all busy getting off on dropping subtle hints at that chiseled Adonis across the way in hopes that his primal urge to pursue kicks in, or while we play hard to get with that Aphrodite at the pub in hopes that she'll show that slight hint of vulnerability, we are forgetting one valuable thing. Before everything else, we are human beings. This may sound like a silly observation at face value. Of course we are, but that insight's meaning is entirely more profound. It is the truth that I am like you. I can cry when I'm sad, I can laugh and smile when I'm happy. I have the capacity to feel cold, silly, jaded, mischievous, selfish, compassion, love, and all of the countless other conditions in the human psyche. Even better, though, is that the opposite is also true. Though you may not express it the exact same way as I do, you also feel some, most, or even all of these emotions.

Armed with this knowledge, it is my hope that I can use it to break down the "game" to it's core and replace it with that which is ten times more terrifying, and yet ten times more rewarding in the long run. I hope to have a meaningful, emotional connections with as many people as I can. I want to help shoulder the burden of people's sorrows, share in people's joy, and lift up my biological brethren when they are down and out. I hope that this form of "universal love" can catch on. Who knows? Maybe we can get to a point where we can one day ask for a hand, a heart, or even a connection without games.
