It was Halloween when I met you. We were at a party, and the yard was full of elaborate jack-o-lanterns lit up and flickering. The moon was high when we talked for the first time. You laughed at my jokes, and held my hand when I was about to break down. You didn't assume, or pass judgement on me. You just stared at me with those gorgeous blue eyes with a look that the pain in my soul matched your own.
We began dating. Around Christmas time, however, I wondered if the relationship we started would last. On more than one occasion, you tried to push me away. You even told me that you weren't worthy of love, and that I was a fool for staying. She agreed to come over one night. Without words, I turned off all the lights in the house, except for the Christmas tree. Those soft, small lights gently colored our faces as I asked her to dance with me. Some holiday music was playing in the background, so it was easy to find a rhythm. Slowly, but surely, our doubt melted away. The tears in our eyes were stained with the blues and greens and reds from the electric glow. I then promised to her, "From the boy who wouldn't leave, to the woman I will always keep, I want you, I'll miss you, and I love you."
