Let's just say building things is not my forte and not in my nature. I sure don't enjoy splinters or things getting poked into my skin all around... And nail guns are frightening. I've been shot through the hand with one of those suckers, so I'm pretty nervous about them anymore.
So the restaurants that I run are doing shitty like the rest of the small businesses out there. My sister and I have been combining thoughts and working to make the stores more productive and more profitable. Soooo... We decided to build an entertainment stage for bands to come in on weekends and perform, which in turn, would ideally generate more business and more revenue for us.
The fact of the matter is that neither one of us is any good at building, so we're learning as we go. She's an artist, so she understands basic methods of visual appeal and some stuff about structure. I'm into learning, so I can self teach myself and her the fundamentals of building the structure and shell of the stage... And making sure we get it nice and stable so we don't get sued for someone falling through. Oh joy.
Revamping a restaurant on a VERY VERY VERY small budget is interesting. I can say it's pretty entertaining and can be fun..
And a side note... I hate hate hate people who complain about prices being raised by cents on the dollar. We don't get shit for free! I don't think a lot of consumers quite comprehend the amount restaurants spend per day/week/month/year to stay up and running. It's very frustrating. "Ohhhh I can get this same thing in Chicago for 2.99 with fries." Yeah, well, asshole, think about the shipping costs to get the product from Chicago to here... Supplies, gas, other shipping costs... On top of the electricity it takes to freeze it, cook it, keep it hot, etc. Bastards.
