I got two new little cowfishs today, so my first one (his name is Kurt) don't has to feel lonely anymore. They are very cute and can move their eyes independently, so you can see when they look at you. Now I need two new names for them, but the problem is that I don't know yet whether they are male or female, it will...

those dudes have been around forever! they started out in texas, got fed up, moved to chicago, and started over, and they're still kicking around chicago as far as i know.
color me stunned.

I've been a big fan of Poi Dog Pondering since their very first record, I bought it in a supermarket. The changes of style they've gone trough are pretty much the same I made, starting with folky-pop and ending with electronic music.
They've been here once for a concert in Hamburg in the early 90s and I bought tickets for all my friends but then so very few were sold that they played for free and just about 20 people were in the audience.
When I was younger I dig so much their music and the lyrics of the album "Whishing like a mountain and thinking like the sea", some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
I can't remember if I've seen "Was tun, wenn's brennt?", probably I have. They are proud over here that over the last 10 years a tradition of german films has developed, cause Germans can't stand some other country dominating a segment of the culture.

Though I thought I'll get ill today I feel happy all around. That silly typesetting work I had to do is almost finished and that means my (first) job will be reduced to 2 half days again and I will have time to do my own research & writing.

Thanks for the comment..things have been a little rough. It's really weird not being in a relationship, but yet still somewhat tied to the person.
I noticed your a sociologist...I'm still going to school to be a counselor...specifically for the gay community though.

Just watched one of those documentarys in TV about the Waffen-SS. They showed some very rare colour films about them and also about the concentration camps. Seeing those unbelievable curel and well organized crimes my country has done in colour makes them so much more real than in B/W and much more affecting. What I didn't know before is that many of the SS-guards in...

My family is ethnically German, many of the early settlers of Pennsylvania were. Americans sometimes call them the "Pennsylvania Dutch", probably due to ignorance and a mispronunciation of the word Deutsch. I don't speak German, it hasn't been spoken in my family since the 19th century. I have promised myself I'll learn if only well enough to read the poetry of Heine in his native language.
My grandfather was named Hurst, and he was partially responsible for the many bombs that fell on Dresden as an officer of the US Air Force. He regards his role in the war as the greatest thing he ever did, or ever could do. But war is violent and he was a peace loving man, after the war he was melancholy for the rest of his life. Many innocent people died there in a bombing campaign that, even though the allies used conventional weapons, was more destructive than the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Americans who study the war often ask themselves the same questions you're asking. If I had been in Germany in the 1930s, would I have supported nazism? As a German-American, what part of me is the part that is vulnerable to fascism? What part of me is responsible for the tragedy?
I don't think that there is much to be gained by sharing in the guilt of our ancestors. It's wrong to feel responsible for the crimes of our ancestors. We can only hope to take responsibility for the prevention of present and future crimes.
In that department, Germany succeeds by opposing the invasion of Iraq without evidence justifying it. We all thought Schreder would back down after the election, he didn't. What do you know, Deutschland! Maybe it was just a game of good cop, bad cop, but we now have weapons inspections and not war.

I am soooo fucking low on money now. I owe my bank as much as I'd earn in five months. I have almost no talent to handle money and so I miscalculated over the last months. (... maybe I shouldn't have spend money I didn't truly own...) Now the cash mashines are beginning to refuse to give me money. Seems like from now on I'll...

Money relaly sucks..I think I struggle emotionally with even the CONCEPT of money, I grew up with debt and now I have it and it's so hard for me to comprehend.
I keep wishing I'd win the lottery, not because I'd like a lot of money (i wouldn't), but so i could help out everyone I know who is surrounded by debt and hungry.

What is robbing a bank compared with founding a bank?

Winter is has reached this town and I'm wearing thick woolen socks. The cute little titmouses outside search for some seeds left over from the already died flowers on my balcony, so I shared some seeds from my breakfast with them and they enjoy it. They are soo sweet little birds. They pick out some Sunflowerseed out of the bowl, put it under their claws...

I do theoretical Sociology, less useful at the first glance, but I am too lazy for empirical research and theories are much more fascinating. And I can be more creative too.
Those titmouses are my friends now; my pets - but free pets.

You are SO sweet. Just had to say that.
Today some great assholes cut down several trees in the backyard of my dwelling house. I don't know why, probably because those people living in the lower stories of the opposite house want to have more light in summer instead of looking into leaves. I can not understand why anybody don't enjoy to have a piece of nature reaching almost into his apartement when he...

Today, 13 years ago the Berlin Wall fell. It's still a little bit moving if I remember that day. The funny thing is, that it was caused by a mistake by a member the east german government. He considered a draft as a regulation on a press conference and then things couldn't be stopped anymore.
