Friday was a very sad day for me. My darling beloved doggie, Mindy, was put to sleep due to her incurable illness. I had to leave work early because I couldn't stop crying.
To make matters worse I got another scare when i turned on my car to go pick up Aegies from school- my check engine light came on.
No after the timing belt in my Prelude snapped I've been trying to be a lot more careful with my car. I didn't want a repeat of that week of hard drinking and horror. I did want comes naturaly to me in that situation:
I panicked.
I refused to drive my car, much to Aegies well hidden irritation. I called the nearest VW dealership to ask what it could be, is it okay to drive, etc. The first thing they told me was to make sure my gas cap was screwed on all the way. The light, unfortunately, was still on. When I did drive, I did it slowly and carefully. But eventurally I had to make the trek back home from Davis, which is about 35 miles and it was pouring. I called my friend Dogmadeth who knows a bit about cars- he told me that the computers run in three day cycles so I really shouldn't panic. The gas cap might have fixed it, and the car just didn't know it yet. Then I called my friend Squirrel who opted to disconnet my battery to reset the computer. Which he did. And now, the evil orange light is thankfully once again dark.
There is, however, one tiny insignigicant detail. Modern car stereos anti-theft devices kick in when you disconnect the battery. Now my stereo doesn't work. I must take it somewhere, have the face unit pulled out so that the serial number can be pulled off of it, so that they can call VW of America headquarters and look up the code to get it working again. All the same, I guess it's better then thinking my car was going to quit on me at any given second. Blah.
