Now many of you know or have heard by now that the institution that is CBGB's is on the verge of closing it's doors for good. As a person who has been going to the club since he was 14 it saddens me. Not only because I spent many of my formative years there going to hardcore shows, getting into fights and hanging out with friends; but it also shows the steady decline of any kind of scene or soul as far as music goes in NYC. Like the Marquee, Wetlands, the Ritz CB's is the last in a line of great clubs to disappear, swallowed by the monster which is NYU all for the sake of gentrification making "people" feel safer (Isn't that what the suburbs are for?). So wherever you are whatever you're doing raise a glass to the grandaddy of all clubs as it makes it's final farewell and catch a chance at seeing some of the greats as they play thier goodbyes over the next few weeks.
