In the market for a new laptop!

I'm not a technically savvy. I may dabble in it but technology is still quite foreign to me.... i still have issues with my phone and I've had a smart phone for years! Anyways, the laptop i have now is getting quite janky and run down. Despite doing the usual stuff you do to laptops when they start running down, mine is still crap. Which makes me very sad, cause i lost a lot of pictures and videos when i system restored it even though i made back-up disk but guess what! They didn't work...... so I'm looking to get a new one. As i said, I'm not technically savvy and there are million types of laptop, i just need some suggestions. What i need in a laptop is:

1) has a cd/dvd drive

2) hdmi cable hook-up

3) has the minimum system requirements to run games like call of duty or some online mmorpg.

4) and lastly, has a webcam. (Not really needed but would be nice to already have.)

And I'm pretty sure thats everything i really need in a laptop....

@btflday777 that actually helps a lot! Thank you so much! I got till January to shop around for a laptop. On the wirecutter.com site they recommended a Toshiba.

Toshiba is a good value brand, lots of students get it, but not without its issues in the past. I didn't own a Toshiba for many years, so I can only repeat anecdotes from others. If I can mention two brands that I like and have owned would be Dell and HP. My two last personal laptops have been Lenovo, but that's because I prefer a more business oriented laptop. Lenovo is a bit expensive, but to me they are worth it. At work we have Dell for the last 15 years, they are very reliable and well performing. Typically you want to set a budget that you want to spend and compare several brands and decide which one gives you the best value for your needs. Build a spreadsheet and take time to compare, it will pay off. There are other sites as well that give you good advice like cnet.com Please ask any specific questions you may have, I'm always happy to give my opinion. If you have time til Jnauary, that's great, since prices will fall after the holidays.
