Stamps. Something we take for granted. The most common stamp used right now is the generic American Flag. The trains are also popular. Every once and a while, you will come across the stamp that people actually went to the post-office for. The stamp that is a small piece of art. The stamp that embodies more than just your 37 cents.

The only part of my job that is exciting is getting the mail. Every morning when the stack of envelopes are delivered, I'm the first to sort through them and I'm the first to look for the stamps no one has.

Although the Cary Grant stamp is widely used as opposed to some of the composer stamps and female journalist stamps, there is something about it that makes me stop and stare. Cary Grant has never done much for me in the past. I don't remember ever seeing one of his movies, nor have I ever talked about him in conversation. Growing up loving pop culture, it took me twenty years to realize the brilliance of the past.

Everything about the "past" is embodied in this stamp: the innocence, the sex-appeal, the vibe of not caring about what the ramifications will be. This man, his look, captures everything that we are missing today.

I can honestly say that I have not met anyone that has the ability to just look at you and make you swoon. People have come close, but the suaveness and confidence is always lacking.

Where have those men/women gone? Are they only in stamps now? Does licking the back of a paper replace the sexuality of yesterday? Are we actually regressing?

Lesson: When purchasing your stamps, go to the post office. You could find your next journal entry.

I've got Irving Berlin stamps right now. I like to imagine I'm physically forcing his smirky little ass to deliver my letters for me.
