Anyone who ever says they want to be in an open relationship and thinks it's all about fucking who you want when you want is a jackass. Just like being single and being in a relationship both require a ton of work in order to be sane and happy, so too does being in an open relationship. The threats are the same, the fears are the same, the need for communication is the same. You just don't bullshit each other about the things you want from the world, and from your partner.

I was married for 8 years, and with my ex-wife for 10 years total, before I decided I wanted my life back. Is it ridiculous to think that I might want to have my own life, my own goals, my own friends, my own security, and still be in love with someone, without wanting to give all those things up so quickly? All to find myself swallowed alive again?
