Alright,
I've had most of a week to adjust to my new place in life. I may not be thrilled with my cubical or my job, or my prospects for advancement in a small office on the 4th floor isolated from the rest of the Sonar Tech community for the most part, but I've started to adjust. One major plus is that a lot of the guys in my office (4 of the 12 or so that share our 2 rooms) play WoW almost as much as I do. Also, 2 of the guys I work with now actually taught me when I was in school here five years ago. They're back for their next shore rotation and I'm on my first one. True, I don't know them very well, but at least they are familiar faces. The main good thing I've found is that I can drag my MP3 player into the office, plug my computer's headphones into it, and blast anything I feel like into my ears as I work my way through the coding tutorials I've been tasked to complete. Turns out I really CAN learn with music blaring in my ears. I thinks its pretty funny, I'm less distracted with Linkin Park blasting full volume into both ears than I am when its quiet and two people are conversing on the other side of the room. Wierd, huh?
Well, thats my new life. At least I get a good amount of free time off the job. Oh yeah! They'll let me out at 11 every day if I sign up for college in the afternoon. Is that awesome or what? I figured I'd be forced into night classes and constant catchup, but that is the best perk for a shitty job I can imagine.
