So the new Lucero record, That Much Further West, is fucking incredible and you should all go out and buy it tomorrow. Those kids need money for whiskey and gasoline.

I was going to write a critical essay on the hows and whys of the burgeoning of the current alt-country-indie-southern-rock movement, but, fortunately for all of you, I'm having a bit of an off night in the writing department and I couldn't get anything to sound good. So, suffice it to say that I'm a big fan of this movement, not because of the irony factor so prevelant in the indie scene today, but because it is roots music that reminds me of home and provides a comforting feeling of nostalgia. Also, all of the bands I've seen so far (Lucero, Whiskey and Co., Drive By Truckers, The Weight) have been exceptional, and the music goes fan-fucking-tastic with beer and whiskey.

I really need to get my aformentioned country band off the ground, because it would simplify my life; I could combine two of my favorite things, alcohol and the guitar, into one convenient setting.

Oh, and it was really, really fucked up that Dimebag got killed last night. It actually fucked with my head a bit; I don't listen to Pantera that often anymore, but I dug them back when i was in high school. I can't help but have concurrent images in my head of some fucktard shooting Dime in the face on stage and of myself at age 15, with my mexican Stratocaster and new, loud Crate amplifier, standing in front of my motley stereo and trying to play along to Vulgar Display of Power.

Goddamn fucking Electric.

Is Lucero Son Volt-esque/have hints of the JayHawks? Or do they lean more towards twangy, old-school country? Definitely interested in checking them out.
