My luck is officially all used up for the entire year. On my original court date, it snowed, delaying court until today and also cancelling the class in which I had a test that I was unprepared for.
Now, this is the conversation that transpired between myself and the county prosecuter for Oconee County Ga. today:
"You are charged with going 80 in a 55"
"Yes sir."
"That's 25 over."
"Yes sir."
"You know that your liscense can be suspended for this."
"Yes sir."
"And your previous driving record doesn't really help your case."
"I know, sir."
"But, I'll be willing to reduce the speed on the ticket as long as you meet these conditions: $296 fine, a defensive driving class, and a year of probation."
This is when I go to mull it over. Is keeping my liscense for the next six months worth a year of probation?
I decide, hell no it isn't; I don't need to drive right now, it's more of a convenience and a luxury, and I definitely do not want to go to jail just because of a fender bender. So, I resign myself to the fact that I won't be driving for 6 months and try and figure out how I'm going to get home from Watkinsville.
So the judge calls me up to make a plea, and I'm all set to plead guilty. But, through some act of god, the county prosecuter either A. took pity on me or B. forgot about the whole probation thing, because all he mentioned to the judge was the fine and the defensive driving class. I'm willing to bet that he forgot, since I had to remind him just how much the fine was.
So anyway, I'm $296 dollars poorer, but I get to keep my liscence. Yay!
I wasted the entire day in that courtroom though. I was there from 9am to 4:30pm.
And I was almost screwed; Upon whipping out my checkbook to pay the ticket, I was informed that I could pay only in cash. And that I couldn't leave the building to go to the bank. Luckily, I called Catie and she brought $300 in cash over too me, so I didn't have to spend a night in jail.
So that's all there is to my most recent brush with The Man.
