I am not usually on here alot I havent even been on this website for a month or so. I dont get many many opportunities to do. I just got back from Florida I was on an airforce job specific training mission.. Ive been skating thru my military career and I didnt know just how important my job is until the other day when......... I as a power production journeyman was at my power plant making sure my equipment woudl run properly and generate power so that everybody on base could see at night/ have air conditioning/ use computers/ basically anything that deals with electricity. I make power. Well when all of a sudden my huge ass generator kicked off line and the whole base lost power. now normally it might just be a fluke of nature and I coudl turn everything back on. not this time. the voltage rectifier relay ( determines how much volts to send everybody in short) went ot on me. and so now its dark out and hot and humid in florida at 7 at night and nobody has any power at all! so i did the only thing i could do:call for help. Well we had a few other generators laying around, so i went and grabbed a truck and went to the kitchen which had a seperate generator so they still had power. I had to take there generator from them. By this time everybody had already eaten so it wasnt a problem.I went to the electricians shop and told them I need to run tent city( where eerybody was not being verycomfortable with out lights and ac. and asked him how many of these tents I can run with this much smaller less reliable generator. He said I can run most of them if not all of them and the ac units attached to them. PERFECT. well we had 7 out of 10 tents successfully running at this time and the generator was runnign at 85% power and the base commander decideds that she need to go turn on these last 3 tents so that she can go in them roll out her cot and sleeping bag and go to sleep. and when she does the generator jumps to 120% rated load it can handle and kicks off line. Well I know I can run 7 out of 10 tents well and that all those people will be happy but the base commander decides that sice she needs a tent all to herself but cant have electricity that nobody gets any. and calls off the exercise. What a wuss. way to take one for the team there commander. It was a good experience for me because I saved the day until the commander got all stupid on us.
