Here's a recap of my experience with Billy Corgan's solo recording and concert. I was assigned the final day of the recording sessions. I think this was good because after reading Billys posts on the previous ones, he had worked through whatever qualms he was having about working in front of a crowd. He was recording in a former church that has been converted into a photographers gallery. We were ushered in and sat on the floor in front of a large red velvet chair surrounded by microphones. After a few minutes, Billy came out. Ive seen him several times but this was the most exciting because he was right there and this was a much more intimate setting than in concert. He explained the importance of silence while recording and that we could take plenty of pictures except of him going into or coming out of the bathroom. Seriously.

Between takes, we all talked about different things with him. It was a total trip to ask him a question and for him to look me in the eyes and respond. I know that makes me sound like a 13 year-old girl admiring a boy band but whatever. His songs were really good. I didnt know what to expect with an all acoustic set but I really did like them. After more songs and discussions, he allowed everyone to get autographs and take pictures. I had him sign a large poster ad for his concert from a local paper. I took plenty of pictures and even got one of the both of us but none of them came out. I was really fuckin pissed about that. Anyway, I was the last one in line so I think his mind was already half-way out the door to get something to eat but I did have the opportunity to tell him that hes been a huge influence on me and that his music inspired me to write songs of my own through which I have been able to find myself. He was glad to hear that. I asked a question for him to the camera, which may or may not be used on the DVD to be released by the end of the year.

The concert was also great. Everyone got a booklet with lyrics to his Chicago set of songs. I met up with a couple chicks at the show that I talked to at the recording session. Theyre both going to send me their pictures since none of mine turned out. I found a used backstage pass after the show was over. It was ripped in half and is missing a piece but I still kept it. Im planning on making a framed display of the pass, my autographed poster ad, the concert ticket, the poetry reading ticket, the lyric booklet, and maybe the invite to the recording session (which was just a mapquest.com printout). I thought it might also be cool to use the covers of the upcoming CD and DVD but those wont be out for a while. Anyway, after 11 years I finally got to meet the one man I admire most. It was crazy to be right there and talk to him. Ill never forget it.

And now for some fun Billy quotes from the recording session and concert:

No one can open for me.

I know my songs dont suck.

These bands grew up listening to me.

Back to what we came here for...sitting in awe of me.

You love me, but havent LOVED me. If you ever get the opportunity to love me, maybe Ill write one of these sad songs for you.

On an audience sing-a-long: I have a tyrannical reputation so if you screw up, I will single you out. The lyrics are, ah-ooh. (fan: Pa-jo?) No, no...not Pajo.
