Reusing this gif because a) I like it (and I like the movie Uncle Buck) and b) the sound of the drill (and the smell of drilling teeth) is the worst part for me whenever I have a dental procedure.
So here's the update:
My appointment was at 2:30 PM PST. I got to my dentist office about 10 minutes early and after a short wait, I was taken back to a "room."
My dentist (not the bait and switch guy I saw first that wanted to charge me for an extraction and implant that, as it turns out, I didn't need), doesn't have all the latest technology and doesn't do a very good job of promoting himself and the things he can do, like mew mini implants. But he is awesome. I should have gone to see him first and saved myself some grief.
One thing he does that no other dentist I've used since I moved to Las Vegas in 1996 is a small thing, but to me it's wonderful. He rubs the area in which he's going to inject local anesthesia with a gel. It slightly numbs the area. It doesn't feel numb, but you don't feel the prick and slight sting when he injects the local anesthetic. Like I said, it's a small thing, but I think it's huge. I hate those little stings.
It lasted about 2.5 hours, including fitting and shaping a temporary crown. I go back next Monday... doc just wants to check on it. On 03 January 2017, I go back for the permanent crown.
I felt very little during the procedure. As I mentioned the worst part for me is the sound of the drill and the smell of drilling teeth. I thought about taking headphones and listen to music to drown out the sound, but a) I forgot, b) he's pretty communicative during the procedure and also needs to tell you when to open wider or when you can relax, and c) I'd still hear the drill because some of the sound travels through the bones in your head.
Now that the anesthesia has worn off I feel no pain. Granted I took an extra strength ibuprofen before the anesthesia wore off, but I don't feel anything. 😃 I'll see how I feel in the morning, but given how I feel now, I don't expect to feel any pain tomorrow either.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 22 when I lived in Alabama. That oral surgeon recommended I take three days off from work and gave me some good pain killers. I think I took one or two. I could have gone to work the next day. Again, no pain.
