It's been a while since I picked up a guitar. In fact, I haven't picked one up and played since I got back from Mississippi on 05 July 2016. But I pulled one off the wall tonight, set up my Line 6 Pod X3 Live Effects board (instead of my stomp box pedal board), and plugged in. Played around with the Pod X3 for a while trying to dial in the right amp, cabinet, effects and tone and finally found a combination I was happy with. (I decided to go with the Pod X3 over my stomp box pedal board because I just couldn't find the right sound and tone for this song... there's a good one on my VOX DA5 practice amp, but that won't work for jamming with other people).
Anyway, after fiddling with the amp and cabinet models, effects and tone, and finding one I was happy with, I proceeded to work on my song Toxic. I think I finally nailed the guitar 1 part: intro, main riff (verse), a little change between verses and chorus. The solo section isn't 100% nailed down, but it's close. YASSS!
Now I can practice it until I've got it down well enough to record. Then I can work on the guitar 2 part.
Finally! Progress!
Sometimes not playing for a while helps break a creative wall.
