Going back to January for this one @missy and @rambo.
At my age, I need to get going if I'm going to cross off even a fraction of the stuff on my Bucket List. I'll start off with a few that I've crossed off so far.
1. Fly an F-16. Crossed off in 1992 while on temporary assignment in Turkey in support of Operation Provide Comfort.
2. Go to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Crossed off while I was stationed in Germany in 1995.
3. Travel Israel. Crossed off the list in 1993. Another temporary assignment. Got to see Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Church of the Nativity and the grotto where Jesus was born, the Via de la Rosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre which houses the hole where Jesus' cross stood, Masada and the Dead Sea.
4. See a baseball game at old Yankee Stadium. Crossed off the list in 2000 (I think that's the right year).
5. Visit Paris, France. Crossed off the list in 1995. I want to go back, the tour was too restrictive and too short.
6. Visit Venice, Italy. Crossed off the list in 1993. I want to go back. Was only there for a day.
Ok, that's the major items I've crossed off my list. Here are the things I want to cross off eventually.
7. Visit each of the 50 states + Washington DC. I've hit 31, though Michigan was a stop over on a flight and Idaho and Montana were just the parts where Yellowstone National Park is. 20 more to go, but in reality 23.
8. See a baseball game at the last two iconic baseball stadiums before they are replaced: Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
9. See a baseball game at all 30 stadiums in the same season.
10. Even though parts of Route 66 are now interstate highway, I want to take a road trip and drive the entire length of Route 66 from Los Angeles to Chicago (or the reverse, makes no difference), taking my time, stopping frequently for photo ops and to see all of the interesting bits of Americana left on the route.
10 Travel Japan.
11. Travel United Kingdom.
12. Travel more of Canada than just Vancouver (though I really liked Vancouver).
13. Travel Rome, Milan, Florence and other cities in Italy.
14. Travel Egypt.
15. Travel Australia.
16. Travel New Zealand.
17. Travel Iceland.
18. Revisit Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Petrified Forest, Everglades National Parks. Except for the Everglades, this should be pretty easy to cross off.
19. Visit Canyonlands, Shenandoah, Arches, Great Basin, Glacier, Acradia, Hawaii Volcano and several other National Parks I've never been to. Some of these should be pretty easy to cross off.
20. Go on a photo safari in Africa.
21. Take a cruise around the world (takes about 2 months).
22. Travel Norway, Sweden and Finland.
23. Visit Brandenburg Gate in Berlin (I kick myself for not doing this while I was stationed in Germany).
24. Visit Amsterdam (I had an opportunity while on temporary assignment, but I was sick the one weekend we had).
25. Skydive.
26. Hike/Backpack the John Muir Trail. This is one I've wanted to do since I was a teenager.
27. Travel Russia.
28. Travel Ireland.
29. Travel Scotland.
30. Retire in Costa Rica or Panama (it's cheap living down there). Though this will probably not happen. I don't think I want to retire abroad without giving up US citizenship (taxes thing) and I'm not sure I'd want to renounce US citizenship.
Lots of travel is involved on my bucket list. I'm going to have to find a way to do it on the cheap. I really don't expect to cross everything off or even most of it, but it'll be fun trying.
Stay Tuned...
