It's coming to a shitty end.
Sunday, I did our taxes. I always wait until almost the last minute because we've had to pay taxes almost every year since 2007. We also owe the IRS back taxes for the two years that my wife was an independent contractor. Each year we were saving money to pay come tax time, but each year something came up and we had to use the money for something else. One year it was my wife's shoulder reconstruction surgery. So any refund we get, we never see. The IRS just deducts it from what we owe. But that's better than having to pay. Anyway, turns out we get a small refund. Even though we won't see it, it was good news and a good way to start the week.
Then I got sick. Went home early from work on Monday and stayed home on Tuesday, which also meant skipping my bowling league Tuesday night. That used up all of my available PTO. I probably could have gone negative, but I didn't really want to. I felt "good enough" on Wednesday and made it through the day. Thursday was a little better. Fortunately, we've had issues with the test environment at work this week (I test/break software), so there hasn't been much to do. I spent most of the week working through a test automation course on Udemy at my own pace. Today, I felt almost 100%, though not yet back to normal. But I was feeling well enough to bowl my Friday league (650 series - 3 games) and thinking I might make a trip out to Death Valley for a photo session. That idea was fleeting...
As I pulled out the parking lot to go home from work, the engine light went on. Fortunately, it was Amber and not red, which meant I could drive home as long as I babied my Mini Cooper. Took me an hour to get home instead of the normal 30-40 minutes since I needed to stay off the freeway. So instead of spending my Saturday enjoying the weather and scenery of Death Valley, I'll be finding out how much it'll cost to get my Mini fixed. I do hope that my extended warranty covers most of it.
May next week be better.
