The Not So Subtle Line Between "Against" and "Non-Belief."
I'm often misunderstood, but I can't figure out why.
I have many opinions about many, many things.
I am, however, not "against" several things; I just don't believe in them.
But often when I say I don't believe in something people start talking like I'm against it.
THESE ARE DIFFERENT THINGS.
I'll use marriage as an example.
I don't believe in marriage because I think it's too often become people going through the motions when their relationship has hit a wall and they feel compelled to get married out of societal pressures.
But when I say I don't believe in marriage, people often come back with:
"You're against marriage? Does that mean you're against monogamy?"
Wait, what? I'm not against it, nor did I ever say that. Get married if you want to. I will congratulate you and celebrate with you and be happy that you've found someone who means so much to you.
But you probably won't see me getting married any time soon. It just doesn't mean anything to me.
Being against something means you're actually offended by it and will take active steps to stop it.
Non-belief means it's not for you, or while you have opinions about it you're reasonably indifferent to it.
NON-BELIEF DOES NOT EQUAL AGAINST.
In regards to my above quote, since when is marriage synonymous with monogamy?
Sure there's an implied synonymity (that word is fun to say, like profundity), but a LOT of married people aren't monogamous, and a lot of monogamous people aren't married.
Monogamy is being committed to one person regardless of marital status.
Getting married isn't going to stop cheaters from cheating. They'll just be married cheaters.
I'm just full of pointless shit to say these days.

P.S. Working and going to school at the same time sucks. I know it's a necessary evil, but not matter how necessary an evil, it's still a big pile of stressful bullshit. Hey! That's all dramatic and whiney! It's like I'm myself again! Sorry about that.
