I had so many topics I wanted to write about this week. And all of them seem to have vacated this brain of mine.
After a visit to the doc, we have decided to try and wean off the Effexor to see if that is the root of all my evils medically. This means that it will take three weeks to get off the meds, and then another 6 before we can determine if it was the cause of some or all of the symptoms. In my journal I have written a few rants on side effects and how we are supposed to just accept them as a part of taking medicine. I Truly feel this is the wrong attitude, it forces us to chose between living with the lesser of two evils instead of finding a way to fix what is broken/wrong/misplaced etc.
Medicine should not be what makes us more ill. Medciine should not be various concoctions of chemicals that are never fully tested because the big drug companies hold political power and are rushed out into the publics waiting gobs for the almighty dollar to roll in. Medicine should not be a business, it should be about helping those in need, not making a profit. The second that drug companies were allowed to become public in shares and control so very much of the financial markets in North America, they should have been abolished.

They are also, finally, going to do the blood sugar testing on me on Monday. in the category of TMI, I urinate approximately 16 - 18 times a day. Which means I never once sleep more than two hours at a time for trips to the can to empty my "golf-ball sized bladder" as Jill likes to refer to it as =) It therefore means that I am always tired and dragged out. I originally thought it had to do with my caffeine consumption but that is much much lower these days than it has been in the past and yet the number of trips has increased. So Monday, they will give me some sickly sweet sugary mixture and send me away for an hour to see what happens to me. They will then test and retest, poke, prod and leech until they have what they need in terms of samples etc.
It is apparently a full morning at the hospital. Ahhh joy oh joy.
Speaking of hospitals, the Supreme Court of Quebec stated that it was unconstitutional to not allow there to be a private health care system because of wait times etc, in the public one. This is endemic of the problem with North American Society today. Rather than try to fix what is wrong, so that it can serve the needs of the people, the wait times for the poor will remain and those with money will simply buy their health and all the while the doctors will make a tidy profit. Again, only those without money, who cannot afford adequate medical insurance will suffer the penalty, and only because they are poor will they suffer. Even though their tax dollars still go towards medicare in Canada... something definitely not right with this picture, especially since the number one concern of Canadianas in the last election was in fact making sure Health Care did not go two tiered... It makes me extremely irate
