Hey, I never said I was Daniel Fuckin' Boone...

You wanna know what the worst single second of your life is? The worst spontanious feeling ever? This isn't something you think about for long periods, like a break-up. It's not
something like learning you have some disease that will change your life. It's not something like being in a car wreck, which is instant pain. Actually, it's not like any of the
really bad things that can happen to you in life. It's not even really a bad thing at all, in the whole scheme of things. It's very minor. And yet it produces, for a second, the worst feeling ever.

I got off work tonight around 8:00. I don't have to be at work tomorrow until 3:00 pm. I had no "going-out" plans for the night. But I did have Tivo. I had "The Shield," "Veronica
Mars," and "Manhatten Melodrama." I had a Bill Hicks dvd courtesy of Netflix. I had a computer with email to check. I had the new book about the Bulger Brothers, who were the
most corrupt men in Boston politics and crime. I had recently-acquired cds by Otis Rush, Waylon Jennings, and the Talking Heads. I had it all, my friend. Until the darkness came.

I was right in the middle of an episode of the Gilmore Girls (I got into the series late, so I'm catching up on the reruns.) Rory had gone to a college party that had a Quentin
Tarintino theme...everyone there dressed like a character from one of his films (why are there no cool parties like that in real-life Memphis? Maybe I just never hear about them...) Just when things were getting good on the show, the power went out. That's the feeling I'm talking about. The second the
power goes out. Your brain instantly and instinctively oes, "awwwwww, man!"

The power could be back on in five days or five minutes. It doesn't change the impact of that first moment when it goes out. You can also tell by this story that I'm not dating
anyone seriously right now. Cause if you're in a relationship and you live together, the power going out is a green-light for spontanious fucking. What else is there to do?

There are a lot of good things about being with someone you love. Love, for one thing. And support, and companionship, and laughter and joy and soul-mate and blah, blah, blah.
The best thing about being in a relationship is having someone to fuck when the power goes out. And if you can't stand looking at them when the power comes back on, well, then, you should...wait a minute...hold on...hey, my
Tivo is working again!
