Well, here we go...my personal favorite top 10
cds of 2005...in no particular order...

M.I.A.-Arular. ok this is on every "too cool
for school" rock critic's list. It's cool to
list her. I'm not listing her for that reason.
I sorta wanted to leave her off my list for
that reason. Cd's too good for me to do that.
Yes, it's that good.

Miranda Lambert-Kerosene. She's 21, she's
cute, she's spunky, she's country and she's
got me in the palm of her hand. And she has
the cutest southern name ever. And she can
kick Gretchen Wilson's ass, musically. Which
is saying something. If I'm ever walking down
a dirt road in the south, after a night of
drinking way too much Jack Daniels, I want to
see her cute and sassy face poking out of a
pick-up truck window, asking me if I need a
ride.

Kaiser Chiefs-Employment. Nice title,
considering I'm probably going to be looking
for a new job soon. Nice to see a band like
the Jam, who were never really big in the US,
still having so much influence on the kids.
Lots of sing-a-long choruses here. A cross
between the Kinks and Devo. Yeah, I said it.

Spoon-Gimme Fiction. It's Spoon, my friends.
And Sister Jack was the song that the Kaiser
Chiefs wish they had written.

Martha Wainwright-self-titled. With a family
name like Wainwright, you don't really need a
title. What you do need is a song titled
"Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole." And, believe
it or not, that's a really beautiful, moving
song. And her dad was on "Undeclared." Nuff
said.

Robbie Williams-Intensive Care. Oh, shut up.
Sure, he can from an English boy band. Sure,
he prances around the stage like Tom Jones.
But don't we need a new Tom Jones? And have
you ever listened to his lyrics? He'll get big
in the states as soon as Cameron Crowe runs
out of old Elton John songs and starts using
Robbie...

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-Howl. It's BRMC.
In a few years, they'll be the new U2.

Kathleen Edwards-Back to Me. Take Tom Petty,
Lucinda Williams, and Canada. Mix them in a
blender. Sprinkle with honesty and various
curse words during a live show. Remember a
girl you used to date and picture what you
want your next relationship to be like. Well,
then you have a Kathleen Edwards cd.

Franz Ferdinand-You Could Have It So Much
Better. No, we couldn't. Unless we get to see
you live. Madness, Act Two. Except the US gets
it...

The Fruitbats-Spelled in Bones. Think of
everything you like about indy
rock/pop/emo/math/prog/...uh.../slash///uhhhh..
I forgot what I was talking about. I'm just
sitting here listening to "The Wind That Blew
My Heart Away." And it did.

Yes, I hear you. Or me. There are some great
things that didn't make this list. I'll soon
post my runners up, best things of this year
so far, and the best singles of 2005.
