meanwhile my sister is due to have a baby any second, and christmas is only two weeks away. it's really unfortunate that my grandmother couldn't stick it out another month to see her granddaughter and our family all together one last time.

I too have no Grandparents left either. Why does it always seem to happen around the Holidays....My Father passed away three years ago on Dec 6th.
Have a safe flight and while words really don't cut it right now my heart goes out to you and your family.
