A topic of recent discussion within the Catholic community has been the ordination of openly gay seminarians as priests. In a recent document published by a church organization, it is stressed that the church will not ordain men who are active homosexuals, who have "deep seated" homosexual tendencies or who support the "gay culture". This document is really the first of it's kind within the Catholic church. There is a lot of homosexuality within the seminaries and many people associate gay men with pedophilia scandals.

Now I have a lot of issues with the language of this report but I can't help but agree with the some of the topics. Take away bedroom behavior and men of homosexual and heterosexual nature act is the same way. I'm not meaning that to be vulgar. Minor differences aside, there is no difference in the way heterosexual and homosexual men react/treat situations in life. A priest, whether homosexual or heterosexual, has taken a vow of celibacy to better themselves and their relationship with God and others. There should be no reason why homosexuality should be occuring within seminaries and within the church the same way there is no reason why heterosexuality should be occuring. In that regards, I think they have the right idea.

That being said, here are the controversial views: I will leave them for you to ponder. I just have to say, 'What the fuck?'. I'll note that they are describing transitory homosexuality as homosexual acts that are later "overcome".

1) In an interview with Vatican Radio Nov. 29, Cardinal Grocholewski said "transitory" homosexual problems might include episodes of youthful curiosity, accidental acts related to a state of drunkenness, behavior by someone in prison for many years, or acts committed in order to "please someone in order to obtain favors."
2) Such people [referring to opening homosexual individuals] have serious problems relating properly to men and women and present a risk of "negative consequences" that should not be underestimated, the document said.
3) The Vatican also communicated to bishops and seminary officials that homosexuals are not to be appointed as rectors or educators in seminaries. "This is a logical consequence of the instruction, that those involved in formation of seminarians should have a personal situation in conformity with the norms," a Vatican official told Catholic News Service.
4) The document said the candidate himself also has a primary responsibility for his own formation. It would be "gravely dishonest" for a seminarian to hide his homosexuality in order to reach ordination, it said.

What a rediculous load of crap. If someone has taken a vow of celibacy and devoted their life to a religion, their sexual preference, or what turns them on is irrelevant! That's like saying that if at one time you prefered big tits, or blondes that you will be less of a priest. There is so much prejudice in the church...it saddens me. frown
