Okay okay okay! Just got back from the desert, everything coated in chalky playa dust, hair dreaded from dust storms and a total disregard for my hairbrush. At my computer checking out the new SG's when I hear pounding drums carrying along the wind into my window. Crook my neck to hear better and it sounds like death metal playing live in the park. Hop onto my bike and race down the see what band is playing. Something seems a bit strange when I come sliding in on my bike, but I miss the nuances at first. For onre, orange plastic fencing encirles the little grasyy areas in some attempt at making an enclosure for people, all thirty or so of them. Sure, whatever, not that bizarre. But what I can't figure out is why there are completely normal older people around, even ones with babies, mixed into a crowd of mussed up black clad oh-so-very-hardcore youth, in their garb. Swing my bike into a shady spot and then the weirdness settles in a bit. A brown haired, fushia t-shirted teenager comes up to me, me and my tangled orange mop top, and hands me a sticker that reads in all caps "GLORY" skateboards. Hmmmmmm. I question, "What festival is this?"
Bouncing up and down in excitement she squeaks, "It's teh FAITH festival but I'm giving you a skate sticker too!"
Then an older guy, 30's, come up to me. Hand outstretched, "Hi, I'm Cain."
"Hi," I reply quickly, not giving my own, while my eyes start to dart around nervously. He dons the same fushia shirt as the girl, with words about faith and sin or something on the sleeve. I pay more attention. To my right is a booth with a hand written sign wailing some stuff about SIN. Oh man. I have ridden into the middle of, I believe, a Christian FAITH festival, where the death metal sounds just the same, except the words revolve arund Jesus and sinning, thus making such music "okay." Hence, the parents smiling nicely with tehir children in strollers. BIZARRE!!
After seeing I'm not saying anything to him, Cain continues, "If you want to purchase a ticket, you can do so over there." He points to a little table with more fushia clad minions.
"Oh, I need a ticket, I see. Okay then."
Swivel my bike toward the stand but then peddal my feet as fast as I can while I try to supress my laughter that I rode into the belly of the FAITH parade. I will say, the drummer kicked ass but I don't know, the whole fushia t shirt god pushing frightened me. I felt like it was going to be a scene from 'Rosemary's Baby' :
"Look at your child, Rosemary. Look at his eyes."
And suddenly BAM she's gotta be one of them too.
Yeah, so, Christian Death Metal. Interesting if you like head banging to Jesus.
