So, I now know my new home after I am done with Afghanistan and Germany. They have seen fit to send me to Aberdeen Md. Its one of those life coming full circle things. Though I went to high school in Georgia and therefore always refer to it when asked where I am from, I was born and grew up around various parts of Maryland. I was born in Fredrick, and grew up in the Whitmarsh, Perry Hall, Aberdeen area. I know most of you have no idea where any of this is, but I am sure you get the idea. So you can see my excitement of going back to a place I have not been in about 18 year, since my Grandmother moved down south, and a have not lived since I was a child.

It makes me think of the perspective of time and distance. In my life I have run hundreds of miles, walked many times more, and driven most likely around world a couple times over. I remember when I was a child and used to have to ride from Perry Hall to Lessberg Va. and it felt like an eternity, when in reality it was not far at all. Hell I even used to think it was a long drive from Perry Hall to Aberdeen to visit my Grandmother. As I said you may not know where these places are, but it can still evoke an idea of perspective. In my job I have gotten a chance to go back to may places I have not been since I was young and its always that way, always faster, never to far. And long drives that used to seem like forever, now seem like not so much at all after 15 months of 12-18 hour drives through a city looking from bombs.

I think about this change of perspective all the time. It makes me wonder, do these things become less daunting because my mind has gotten bigger, or is it just because my body is bigger and I don't have as far to go. Most likely is because I am in charge of my life now and I get to pick where I go. Thanks for checking out my ramblings.
