A contribution to the great verse

While I've probably mentioned it before on this blog I'm a writer. I bring it up now because I've been hard at work lately writing one of my more new projects that has since snowballed into something near completion. While I'm only done with writing the rough rough draft it will still be the first full novel I've written in over ten years. I feel a bit of pride that this has become something that I'm actually seeing to it's end. My intention is to then seek publishing options. I do have a publisher technically but it's been more than ten years since I've talked to them so it would be rather random of me to just call them up out of the blue with a new novel. A lot has changed in the last ten years though. There are other options out there now I might pursue to get some money for publishing that weren't around back then. There are even more options to promote my novel as well.

All that considered I'm excited just to complete the damn thing. It's a draining process to put so much energy into something. This novel in particular has affected me personally in unexpected ways. I don't know why, maybe it's because I modeled the main character after myself and in doing so was forced into a state of self analyzation that could have driven me insane. Lucky for me I'm already insane so it didn't faze me. Instead the outcome is what has lead to my new positive outlook on life. I realize what I need to be happy and thankfully it isn't much, all the rest of the stuff I currently have is just a nice bonus. :)

In closing I would just like to give a brief premise of my novel since it's nearing it's first state of completion. I've been writing it for 5 years now and though it's taken many forms it has remained true to it's themes. It's called "Stone Dead", honestly I'd like to find a graphic artist to design a cool graphic for the cover with the words "Stone" and "Dead" configured somehow to look like "Stoned" as well as the novel's title but I might not do that if I can't pull it off to my liking. It's my first attempt at a few genres; zombie apocalypse, comedy, suspense/horror, but I'm happy with it so far.

The main character, named Steven Young, suddenly wakes up in a mental institution after briefly waking up in a hospital room. He's being told he's been in a coma for the past eight years after a bad car accident but he claims to believe he's been surviving in a zombie apocalypse world with his friend Bill. So he ends up recounting his experiences in therapy and with others at the institution in an effort to make sense of everything.

Currently its divided into 5 main acts or chapters or whatever.

Awakening, which is the beginning. Steve is getting settled into the asylum and flashing back to his first few months after the outbreak happened. Fear, Steve begins to fear he may really be insane and recounts a time when him and his friend Bill had a terrifying encounter with a nasty haunting while locked inside a hospital surrounded by zombies. Deviance, deciding he isn't crazy Steve "regresses" to firmly believing he's imprisoned somewhere and the zombie apocalypse is real. He also remembers a time when Bill and him stayed at an apartment complex with some other people he really didn't like. Sadness, after his therapist comes down hard on him for his rebellious behavior Steve is broken down to accepting he's delusional and talks about a few months after the outbreak when he almost drank himself to death out of depression. Also Bill and him blew up a gas station with a grenade. That brings us to Salvation, the dramatic conclusion...

So that's it. Thank you to all who read/like/comment on my blog posts and even to those who don't. We are all awesome, we just gotta show it. :)

This honestly sounds pretty interesting, even though I think that the zombie theme is a little overused. Don't get me wrong, I love zombies, but they're friggin' everywhere! But as far as I understood, the story is not centered on zombies but on Steven and the question whether he's been in an zombie apocalypse or been in coma for the past few years. I definitely would give this book a try because of the concept you described. :)
