Some days I hate being a black (African American). Not because of the prejudices I live with every day, they makes me hate being human. Im talking about the way we, as a people, allow ourselves to become everything racist say we are. I cannot leave my house, turn on the television or listen to the radio without being bombarded with a Minstrel Show of every bad stereotype ever said by every racist has ever said about us. And to make it worst, WE are the ones doing it.

It was not 40 years ago Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X and a number of other men and women worked , and in some case died, to show the world we are not a bunch of pimps, hoes, drug dealers, drug addicts and thugs. They encouraged us to become educated. They thrived to show we can be productive and valuable members of society. They wished to show the world how our family bonds were strong and nurturing. And how do we thank them for all their hard work and sacrifice? By showing the world we are nothing but a bunch of niggers.

Every time I leave my home I see gang members with no regard for life. They confuse fear with respect (sad, since its human nature to conquer what it fears). They dress their children in gang colors. They treat their wives, girlfriends and baby mommas like theyre disposable. They sell drugs that poison society.

On the radio and television we wear stereotypes like badges. Shows like The Wayans Brothers, The Jamie Foxx Show, Comic View on BET and movies like Menace II Society seem to take pride in showing us a loud, vulgar, and unintelligent and that people with social skills are the outcast. Rap songs with so called MCs claiming to be drug dealer and pimps are bad, but songs by women saying how much they love the types of men have to be the worst SHIT ever. Where in the fuck did we go wrong? And why did Rap finally become acceptable in the main stream when it became so stereotypical?

And my personal favorite out of all this is that I am considered by other African Americans to be a poor representative of our people (even though I know Black History and love classic R&B, Old School and Underground Hip-Hip) because I like to read books, can speak proper English and listen to Rock Music. And when they learn I have friends of all nationalities, and date outside my race I get stamped with the term Sell Out.

We once fought to prove we are equal, now its like we just like said Sike!

Powerful words there. It seemed that Bill Cosby took some heat recently for saying simular things. I myself can relate only in the sence that I see humanity doing stupid things and I want to say, "Just stop it, okay? please?"
