Black Tides in Winter

I lament the passing of our fleeting union.
Like a dark wave receding with a fantastic riptide,
Pulling my love steadily away,
As I pound my fists into the quicksand.
Pulling me steadily down.
Love dying in solution.
Life dying in dissolution.

I hate the black tides that delude the soul.
Watering it down with the countlessness of its wave.
Seemingly pragmatic with choice of victim.
Seemingly innocent with its coy benevolence.
Pulling my body six feet under.
Pulling my heart across a jagged reef.
Drawing my blood to the lips of sharks.

My want, to weep at this passing.
But I fear my tears will be swallowed.
Dispersed in the sea of malicious currents.
Giving life-blood to my enemy;
Giving energy to that too strong flow.
Moistening the powerful pull of my sandy prison.
Killing me as I struggle, constricting my lungs.

I hope my bottled message reaches some god,
One who could ship me a woman. Goddess.
One strong enough in spirit to battle my cruel waves;
And patient enough in love to wait out my struggle.
Pulling myself from my tear-laden prison.
To see her radiant will and beauty
Idly defying the black tides and cursed earth of my pained mind.

Long the winter hollows the soul
And leaves it frostbitten and badly bruised.
The chill of a world left without you near
Is like standing on Pluto, so far from the sun.
Planets and cosmic forces separate us;
People and circumstances separate us.
Im left to wonder is I would he your earth,
The planet most alive around you;
Or would I be your mercury
And been the closest planet to you? Could I?

Can I break through the ice,
Collected and congealed around my feet,
And bare my journey on toward the new summer
Can Pluto find a new sun to chase?
I am left alone to trudge
Across the wintered and weathered ice deserts of Pluto
As it makes its way around
The circle of that radiant sun.

We are both too far away to feel the warmth
Of fires of ages past,
But the monotony of this circle, this unbreakable rotation,
Forces memory to remind us of what once was:
The orgasmic heat of an active planet, an active love,
In the warm light of the sun.
