So this particular entry is a few days overdue, since its events technically transpired on Wednesday, Jan. 3rd 2007 but it was the highlight for last week and I'm in the mood to write about it
Wednesday was pretty good cause of plans with my ex-girlfriend who wanted us to get together on her day off to hang out (since it had been awhile). So we decided to visit San Francisco to do some shopping off of market at Urban Outfitters, have lunch in Japan Town, and catch a showing of Guillermo Del Toro's latest - "Pan's Labyrinth".
Getting out after not doing anything through the course of the holidays was much needed for me (since all I did was sulk through them), so what better way to go about that by hitting up my favorite city and being in good company.
Although my ex and I have pretty much put our 7 year relationship in the past, it's still somewhat surreal to be like this but it's not a bad thing - we do make good friends because of all the interests we still share and such, so it's nice.
She had insisted we go to shopping off of Market Street and visit Urban Outfitters, so I could pick out a belated Christmas gift from her (since she knew all I got for Xmas was the "The Twilight Zone Complete Definitive DVD Collection" that I bought for myself).
Shopping with her was fun; I saw lots of neat looking stuff there, settled on a black/grey striped sweater as my present, and even came out purchasing some belts for myself as well. Too bad she wouldn't let me return the favor of getting her something though
Afterwards we made haste to Japan Town to get some lunch at a great Japanese Restaurant we always used to eat at. We had some sushi and salmon teriyaki - all of which was especially tasty.
With lunch done and some much needed food in our stomachs, we walked down the street to the Sundance Kabuki Cinema where we intended to see a 4:15pm showing of "Pan's Labyrinth". Making it just on time we purchased our tickets and headed into the theatre (gotta mention the staff there was really friendly, telling us we were in for a treat with the movie). She was a little wary of watching a movie with subtitles; only cause she was tired but I couldn't help but tease about reading problems. I had no problem with them though, but well that's cause I didn't need to read them since I can understand and speak Spanish just fine, hehe. Much to my surprise though, she made it through just fine.
We agreed the movie itself was truly magnificent, showcasing some excellent characters that were very well acted and a story that was quite deep and magical. I had a feeling it would be great, since Guillermo Del Toro has more than proven to be one of the best modern horror film directors with his past input, and I got a feeling "Pan's Labyrinth" is going to go beyond a cult status. I definitely recommend catching it in theatres and enjoying it, especially anyone who grew up on Fairy Tales. I was very creeped out by this guy that was for sure!

After sitting through the credits for the film, I found my attention drawn to an elderly couple who were also preparing to exit the theatre and I couldn't help but think to myself how ideal it would be to find someone to watch horror movies with when I grow that old{sigh}.
It's tough to think I'll ever be that lucky though, especially when lyrics like these strike at me when I think of my last relationship
Shame, pass the ticket along
Are you outside or inside?
You are in.
So what you want to know?
That everybody wants you?
You're old enough to say
What's really on your mind
Shame, has to take it alone
Are we not for between us
We are here
So what you gonna do
When everybody loves you?
You're old enough to know
What's really on their minds
They wanted the same thing
In love with the same thing
They wanted it all
So what you gonna do
When everybody hates you?
You're old enough to have known
What was really on their minds
They wanted the same thing
In love with the same thing
In love with the same thing
They wanted the same thing
In love with the same thing
Wanted the same thing
They wanted it all
