For My Fellow Canuckies About To Vote
A disturbing trend started a few days ago in this election. The parties began talking about siding with the Torys or the Liberals in order to block the other. This ISNT the USA and it is NOT a 2 party system. The only reason people vote either Liberal or Tory is because we allow it to be a 2 party system.
You need to vote your heart. You need to encourage others to vote their heart. When they say you are wasting your vote cause you afre voting Green or NDP or ML or whatever you believe in... you must tell them that THEY are wasting their vote. Your vote is a voice. It is your chance to say "These are the thing important to me". If you do anything else with your vote THAT is the waste.
Am I voting for one of the "other" parties... Yer damn right! I am voting Green. It's important to me that we change the world. That we cut back on pollution, and make a world for our children. To vote Liberal or Tory is to vote for the same thing we've seen. It's a vote AGAINST change. Read about Peak Oil and you will be blown away. Read about the horrors of natural gas. Read about how everytime you get in the car you say to oil companies "I dont mind that you kill workers, or assassinate elected officials to fulfill your greedy appetites for money" The world is ugly... we need change.
Many people say voting Green and cutting back on pollution isnt important because we aren't the biggest polluter. To them I say that isn't enough. We should be a beacon shining light on the rest of the world. We should SHAME the world into protecting wildlife, plantlife, our air, all the things we take for granted.
My friends in Quebec... please don't vote Bloc. We love you. We are Canada.. a country of love... Yes we are different, but that is what makes us strong. If we can recognise and live together, we can set an example for the rest of the world. Alberta, we love you too... I know it seems like sometimes you are left out with all the Quebec talk, but we really want to make everyone happy. Canada is a country that helps eachother. Right now Alberta has a lot of fuel... what a winfall for us all.. .but if there was no fuel.. we would still love you and we would be there making sure you were all ok... just like we are in some of the other provinces who are down on thier luck.
Ok... I'm all done. I just... it's ok if you dont agree with my Green views... but vote with your heart.. not some silly strategy that just serves to make sure the same crooked people govern everytime. Whatever you do.. vote. If all the people in Canada voted thier heart... we would have a much happier and healthier country...

Well put. "Strategic voting" is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've done my part to try to convince people to vote with their hearts as well. We need to create a culture of voting for values rather than voting for someone we perceive as having a chance to win. I have just discovered your journal and look forward to reading it on a regular basis. By the way, I'm an NDP guy and I'm pissed at Buzz Hargrove for fucking us with his "strategic backing of the Liberals to try to keep the Conservatives out" plan. Nice foresight Buzz. Well done.
