I know what it’s like to be alone,

truly alone,

the kind of quiet that echoes in your soul

that claws at your skin

that crawls into your heart and drags in

it’s little friend sadness.

I know what it’s like to crave a touch

a look,

a smile,

a nod,

a conversation,

an embrace,

but…

there in none to be had

for you!

I know what it’s like to dread the cold silence

of your own space

to cringe at the reflection of your own face

day after day without another.

Alone,

Loneliness,

Longing,

Laborious and real.

Will I eventually lose the ability to feel?
