Top 5 Movies I'd Watch Forever

There are so many amazing movies in the world, and all movies reach us and speak to us differently. I've always been a big movie fan, and it's fun to think which ones I'd take with me to a deserted island! So, here are my picks:

First, 1 and 2 go together. Since they're technically two separate movies, I suppose they each count for one of my picks.

Pick 1 and 2: Nymphomaniac, Volumes I and II

When I first saw this movie, I'm not going to lie - I clicked to watch it purely for the name. But the story within is so incredible, and I found myself relating, and disagreeing, and cheering, and crying. I can't say I recommend this movie for everyone, but it sure is the movie (or, movies, I suppose I should say0 for me.

Pick 3: Cabin in the Woods

This movie launched a love of an entire genre for me - comical horror. Before I watched this movie, I'd only ever seen a handful of horror films. But after I watched this, I searched for more. And there's truly a special comedy that you can only get in horror films - and I love it so much!

Pick 4: Chicago (the musical film)

I love musicals! And this happens to be one of my favorites. It's all about some badass, sexy, bitches! The songs are fun, the dancing is beautifully choreographed, and it's just overall a ton of fun! I'd definitely need one musical for my deserted island list, for the sake of my sanity. (I listen to show tunes basically daily...)

And finally...

Pick 5: Midsommar

When I saw this movie in theaters, I was enchanted. There's so much going on. From bizarre cult, to the trippy visuals, I loved everything about this movie. And, maybe a bit inappropriately, it really made me laugh. I've heard a lot of people taking issue with this film, and I honestly just can't agree with any of it. Maybe the biggest mistake was advertising it as a horror film because it's so much more than that. It's folksy, sometimes suspenseful, but I personally never felt fear. Occasionally adrenaline, in sync with the main female of the story.

And that's my list of 5 movies! Would you take any of my picks? Have you seen all my picks? Let me know in the comments!

Another fan of Von Trier here--basically, like Jarmush, Greenway, and going back a little Bergman and Fellini, I buy their movies as soon as possible, as I know it will take a while.  I do have a problem with Chicago, though... it's because I've seen "All That Jazz" which Bob Fosse choreographed himself--and once you've seen the real deal, it's hard to go back to the echo.  He was an extraordinary genius (and right bastard), and his work is easy to imitate but hard to master.  check out his "snake dance" from "The Little Prince" and then look at Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and tell me it's original... //anyway, I admire your thoughtful and diverse taste!  and give my regards to Pasquales if you ever get up that way.
