Last night was the first night of Hanukkah. As a lot of you may know, I’m Jewish! I grew up celebrating both Hanukkah and Christmas, so the holidays have always been a little extra busy for me. Last night I went over to my parents’ home, cooked latkes, had a nice family dinner, and then lit the first candle.

Above is the latkes cooking, they’re basically “Jewish hashbrowns” as my mother explained to my boyfriend!

And you’ve heard of Elf on a Shelf, right? Well, I bet you haven’t heard of Mensch on a Bench!

He’s a part of a new Hanukkah tradition, and I really like him! I think it’s super cute, he comes with a great backstory that teaches kids about Hanukkah, and is a great way to get kids a little more involved! I read it to my boyfriend, since he doesn’t know about Hanukkah.

Last night was the first night, and overall there are 8 total nights. We take the time to remember a dark past, and recommit ourselves to making the future brighter.
