So the other day, Wednesday to be specific, was the first day of Theatre Junction's Random Acts festival of emerging works. Each evening they provide a showcase of new short plays, and Wednesday inculded mine, At the Gates, a wonderful little piece about an athiest arriving at the Pearly Gates to be greeted by a surly St. Peter. What was interesting about this is that, for the first time, I didn't know anyone involved in the project. I just sent them the script and showed up for the performance. Never happened before. That was pretty cool. Plus, the audience was just cracking up over it (and yes, it's a comedy, so that helps), and that's always nice. Afterwards I got to plug THE SPY WHO LEFT ME, RUNNING MARCH 9TH TO MARCH 19TH while shmoozing with the other attendees.
I like shmoozing. I liked it when I won my big writing award at the One-Act Festival and I liked it on Wednesday. Which is odd, because I dislike crowds and am afraid of people I don't know. I can think of no rational comparison for this, for enjoying an activity but fearing or disliking all of its component parts. Still, it was fun, my script was a big hit, and they did it well. I hope to experience that again some day.
Then yesterday I worked for 12.5 hours. That I will experience again, and sooner than I'd like. But that's neither here nor there. Tonight the plan is Gorilla Theatre at Loose Moose, possibly followed by dancing at HiFi. Gina likes to dance, Gina likes to drag me with her. C'est la vie.
