wow so i just finished a two day stint of watching True Blood. I loved it, and for the first time in a while i have vampire fever. Vampires are really fucking seductive, the only thing that kinda peeves me out is that the vampire/ human love stories are always so hegemonic. Why is it that it's always a fragile women who falls for a strong vampire dude??? why can't the story go the other way around.
In a sense it's like the vampire dudes have all the qualities that are valued in a "man". strength, courage, aggression .. blah blah... but what if it were a vampire female who had all the same qualities who feel in love with a man (or woman) who was just as fragile as a "damsel" and needed her just as much. would that same story cause hundreds of teenage girls to swoon. I doubt it. But i'm guesing that kind of story wouldn't get mass exposure because it might do one very dangerous thing...... and that's make women feel empowered. That's too risky i guess....its better to encourage them to wait around for mister right. eww.
not that i didn't enjoy true blood...or even the twilight saga... i'm just saying that the cultural readings on those stories are way fucked.

you should write your own version. i'm sur there'd be an audience for it (i'm among that number). the only stories i've seen or watched w/ an empowered female vampire are the ones where she seduces the female/male in as prey....not sure if i'd call those love stories lol. i dont know...would you consider The Hunger somewhat of a tragic love tale?
