man, after seeing what is going on with Katrina in the south, i feel bad about reporting what an awesome freakin' weekend i had at the body art expo in san francisco.
ummm... IT ROCKED!!! we set up on thursday, started working on friday, and by the end of friday, we were booked thru sunday afternoon!!! my first show, i was so nervous, i felt like i was gonna throw up until halfway thru the first piece. after that... smoothe sailing. AJ, my business partner for the weekend, was just happy to work on some lighter skin and play with some bright color. not much of that out in the islands. just heavy black-work. ew. $$$, but eww.
some of the perks were when people came around saying that we were the only booth that was doing the custom work they wanted and that we were nicer than most of the other people working. i was working on this photo-realistic horned owl in front of a blood moon on an ankle, and other tattooists were coming up and commenting on the detail and the color. i know, ego, but it felt really nice.
i figured out that wildlife/photo-realism is the style i like best in tattooing. it's a combo of the beauty and the challenge, and i seem to have a knack for it.
so, in light of AJ's dismal views of the island tattoo scene, and both of our new-found loves for conventions, i have decided to move to the southwest. santa fe or taos, perhaps. Maybe sedona, AZ. it allows for the exposure i want and the work that i need. Anyone hiring for early next year?
